One of the stars of Stranger Things season 3 has spoken about the possibility of his character returning… despite suffering a pretty gruesome and definitive death.

Andrey Ivchenko played the part of terrifying villain Grigori, who spent most of the season chasing down protagonists Terminator-style, eventually shooting poor Alexei (RIP).

Speaking to Digital Spy at San Diego Comic-Con about the reaction to his character, the actor said: "It's pretty interesting how people react... I mean obviously there are comments like 'why did you kill Alexei' and all that stuff [and] 'we hate you for that'..."

"To me, I don't want to say it doesn't matter, but I really appreciate the positive side, where people have been very positive about the character.

"Even the negative side I appreciate, because you know people are passionate about that project... Some of them [are] probably taking it so seriously [because] they really believe [in] those characters."

Ivchenko added: "As long as people stay... invested and really like it, it doesn't matter what feeling they have towards characters. As long as they like the storyline, the action, whatever happens... I think it's great."

Grigori went out with a bang, literally, after being thrown by Hopper into the machine to open the gate to the Upside Down.

Although the character was seemingly shredded to pieces, given that this is sci-fi, the actor reckons a return could be possible.

"It's sci-fi, you know, so things can happen," Ivchenko mused. "For now, what I know is he's dead. But who knows?"

Well, there is the possibility that Hopper is still alive too – so stranger things (sorry) really could happen.

Stranger Things season 3 is now streaming on Netflix.
