Supergirl's season 5 trailer hints that National City hasn't seen the last of Lex Luthor.

The teaser released at Comic-Con International not only unveils new storyline details, but also shows off Kara's brand-new costume — she's ditched the skirt for some pants.

Cool new costume aside, there's a growing feud between Kara (Melissa Benoist) and former friend Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath) – who is seemingly turning to the dark side by pitching sinister body-enhancement tech to the public.

It's all part of her grudge against Kara after learning the truth about her secret identity, warning at one point: "I'm not a villain. I don't want to kill Supergirl.

"I just want her to experience the same hurt she inflicted on me. And soon enough, she will."

As the feud between the two former friends spirals further, the maniacal laugh of Lena's older brother Lex (Jon Cryer) can be heard in the background.

There is some good news for Team Kara, though. The Man in the Van will be back in season 5, when Jeremy Jordan finally turns up once again as Kara's mate Winn.

But as one friend returns, another says goodbye. It was announced as Comic-Con got underway on Friday (July 19) that original cast member Mehcad Brooks (aka James Olsen) is bowing out later in the season.

"We love Mehcad and we're sad to see him leave the show as a series regular, but we're excited for both Mehcad and James Olsen's future," showrunners Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller announced.

"He'll always be a part of our Supergirl family and we look forward to James returning to National City at some point to visit his sister and his super friends."

New cast additions this year include Dallas star Julie Gonzalo as DC hero Acrata and Game of Thrones actor Staz Nair as ace reporter William Dey.
