Taskmaster's New Year Treat spoilers follow.

Taskmaster has announced the winner of its fifth New Year's special episode, as Sue Johnston took the crown.

Tonight's (December 29) annual instalment of Taskmaster's New Year Treat saw five brand-new celebrities battle it out to take home the coveted Golden Eyebrows Trophy.

Coronation Street's Sue, Good Morning Britain's Martin Lewis, footballer David James, All Saints' Melanie Blatt and The Secret Genius of Modern Life's Professor Hannah Fry pulled out all the stops to impress the Taskmaster Greg Davies and his assistant Little Alex Horne.

As always, the celebrities were faced with ridiculous challenges including the prize task, which required them to present "the source of their greatest pride".

Melanie brought her MasterChef apron, Martin brought a prize from rival game show House of Games and Hannah brought in a lion ovary that was "bursting with pride".

However, it was David's painting of Alex and Sue's photo of her mother that scored a joint 5 points. "Normally, people don't bring in good stuff," an impressed Greg said of David's painting.

Next, the contestants had to "don as many gloves as possible" in the laboratory. However, after quickly following the instruction, they were shocked to find that the real task was hidden behind an image.

The celebrities had to then hold sand-filled glasses and put all their gloves back in the box. They received a forfeit for every gram of sand they spilt. Hannah received five points, while Melanie only scored one.

The remaining tasks included "do something you regret", transferring water from a bucket, and a quiz-based drawing challenge in the studio.

Sue finished in first place, winning the show with 19 points. Hannah was the runner up with 16 points and Martin landed in third with 14. Meanwhile, David and Mel finished in fourth and fifth place, with a respective 13 and 12 points.

Taskmaster and Junior Taskmaster air on Channel 4.
