Fans of Deborah Harkness' novel A Discovery of Witches were on the edge of their seats on Friday night (September 14) for the first episode of Sky One's telly version.
The series, starring Matthew Goode and Teresa Palmer, takes place in a world where witches, vampires and daemons live and work unseen amongst humans.
But threats to their way of life arise as reluctant witch Diana Bishop (Palmer) is thrown into the heart of a dangerous mystery following the discovery of a manuscript in Oxford's Bodleian Library.
Diana then meets Professor Matthew Clairmont (Goode), a vampire, and together the pair set out to understand the manuscript's secrets, falling in love and threatening a breakdown of the fragile peace in the supernatural world all the while.
With a variety of magical characters and beautifully shot on location in Oxford, fans of the book series were hoping Harkness' characters and settings would come to life on the small screen just as they'd imagined.
And from the reactions on Twitter, it appears the first episode didn't disappoint.
