Strike star Tom Burke seemingly has the rest of his career booked up thanks to a new pledge from JK Rowling.

The Harry Potter writer's Cormoran Strike detective books, which are named after its titular hero, is just making its jump to TV four years after the release of Rowling's first foray into criminal thrillers (under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith).

Burke is currently starring as Strike in the first of a planned ongoing series of BBC adaptations, starting with the murder mystery The Cuckoo's Calling.

In a recent interview with the BBC to promote the new TV series, Rowling slipped in some promising news about the future of Strike while chatting about how challenging it can be to take her work from page to screen.

"It's always slightly unnerving, because you are obviously giving up control, so you'd better really trust the people you're working with," she explained. "That's key for me. Who am I going to be working with?

"For Strike that was even more important because literally, the first time I met Tom [Burke], I said, 'Well I hope to God you do enjoy playing this character because I think I've got at least another 10 books in me, so you could be locked in for quite a few years here.'

"It was really important to me that we got the right people in front of the camera, and off camera. Because as I say this could go on for a very long time. I hope it does, because I absolutely love writing the books on which the TV scripts are then based."

All signs point to a healthy future for Strike, thanks to solid reviews for its first two episodes and a ringing endorsement on Tom Burke's casting from Rowling herself.

The series finale of Strike airs on Sunday (September 3) at 9pm on BBC One.
