A "funny and geeky and vulnerable" new companion is in store when we properly meet Doctor Who's Bill.
With Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman) off exploring time and space on her own these days, the 12th Doctor will soon be crossing paths with a new friend who's bound to change his life (err, lives) forever.

In an interview with The Guardian, new Doctor Who star Pearl Mackie offered some juicy tidbits about what we can expect from the TARDIS's next co-pilot Bill.
"She's funny and geeky and vulnerable," Pearl teased. "There's a goofiness to her and a big heart. She gets things wrong, she has a temper. I thought, 'I know her. I could play her'."
While Pearl "can't say" why The Doctor's new pal is actually named Bill or even reveal her character's job, she does hint at a natural rapport with co-star Peter Capaldi.

"I think the two characters complement each other," she said. "I don't have a lot of experience travelling through space and time, you see."
Pearl also beamed: "I'm having the time of my life. This is the biggest part I've ever had… I've never worked so hard.
"We filmed four of the 12 episodes in Cardiff. I have a flat there so I don't have to travel all the time. Work, innit? I feel like I've joined a big family."

Before The Doctor and Bill properly meet, the TARDIS will somehow cross paths with a bona fide superhero in this year's Christmas special.
Donning a cape and spandex for the festive episode is Orphan Black and American Gothic star Justin Chatwin, who's sure to annoy The Doctor with his do-gooder antics.

Doctor Who's Christmas special is expected to air on December 25 on BBC One in the UK and BBC America in the US, with series 10 to follow next year.
