Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan has backed Donald Trump for the US presidency, joking that he will ask if there are any press jobs going at the White House.
Speaking after tonight's National Television Awards, where he and co-host Susanna Reid presented the Daytime prize to The Chase, Morgan claimed the recent Parliamentary debate over whether to ban Trump from the UK was "ridiculous".
Morgan said: "I like Donald Trump. He's a fantastically colourful, charismatic individual who may well be President of the United States. People want to ban him in England, are they going to ban the President of the United States if he wins? It's utterly ridiculous."
The former Mirror editor noted that controversial figures including Vladimir Putin and Robert Mugabe had been welcomed into the country despite their international reputation.
Morgan said that when he speaks to Trump, he'll "ask him if [he's] got any jobs going at the White House". He added: "Press secretary - I could be the CJ Cregg from West Wing-type."
While Morgan explained he wasn't sure whether Trump would be a good president, he warned that people need to "wake up" to the fact the tycoon is "way ahead in the polls".

"He's been a brilliant tycoon, he's a fantastically successful business man, he's a brilliant TV star, I've always gotten on very well with him, I like him. He's a showman, he's brash, he's arrogant, he's all those things, but underneath it all he's a very smart man," Morgan continued.
The presenter also admitted he would not rule out returning to Britain's Got Talent if he was asked.
He said: "I'd never say never, because I love Britain's Got Talent. And obviously when I was on it, it got 20 million viewers.
"Simon [Cowell] and I had a very good dynamic. Of all the shows I've done before, the only one I'd go back to is that one."
