Jerry Seinfeld dropped in on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night (January 6) to joke about America's obesity epidemic and, um, hotel buffets.

"A lot of people think we have a weight problem in this country. I don't agree with that. I don't believe we have a weight problem till we're all physically touching each other all the time," laughed the comedian. "Solid human flesh from coast to coast."

That might not be too far-fetched a possibility, however, if America continues its love affair with hotel buffets, as the 61-year-old warned: "Nobody walks into a restaurant and says to the waiter, 'I want a yogurt parfait, spare ribs, a waffle, four cookies and an egg white omelette'."

His guest spot was in promotion of an upcoming residency at New York's Beacon Theatre kicking off this week.

The new stand-up show - titled  Jerry Seinfeld: The Homestand - begins tonight at the 2,300-seater New York venue, and is scheduled to run till June.

It caps a busy beginning to 2016 for the comedian, who last week was shown swinging by the White House for a cuppa with President Barack Obama.

Coffee with the POTUS and a stand-up spot on TV in the first week of the year? At this rate, we could have an elusive Seinfeld reunion on our screens by August and - less tantalisingly - a Bee Movie sequel by Christmas. Nice to have you back, Jerry.
