Police thriller Prisoner has landed on a streaming service in the UK. Starring Izuka Hoyle and Tahar Rahim, the series focuses on a prison officer and an inmate who are forced to team-up after their transport vehicle is ambushed.

Viewers wanting to catch the action-packed series, which is created and co-written by Matt Charman, can now do so, with all six episodes available to stream via NOW and Sky Atlantic as of today.

The thriller series focuses on a "principled" prison officer named Amber Todd (Hoyle), who is tasked with escorting trained killer Tibor Stone (Rahim) to court as he plans to testify against his crime syndicate.

However, when the convoy is "brutally ambushed", Amber is "forced to put her life in his hands", and the pair "must race to reach their destination alive and on time" while handcuffed together.

"Along the way, their uneasy alliance is tested as the syndicate closes in," the synopsis adds. "Trust becomes a weapon and their shackled survival a moral dilemma, forcing Amber to confront how far she’ll go to protect what matters most."

Prisoner features a stacked supporting cast including Eddie Marsan, Catherine McCormack, Leonie Benesch, Finn Bennett, Laurie Davidson, Brían F O'Byrne, Ken Nwosu, Youssef Kerkour and Sam Troughton.

Following its premiere, series has already been compared to a very notable police thriller, with The Guardian calling it "a lean, Line of Duty-esque police drama" while also praising its "sleek storytelling".

The Times echoed that sentiment as they opined that the "slick action thriller is one" for fans of the BBC drama, writing: "Falling in the Line of Duty wheelhouse, it works, partly thanks to the committed performances from Izuka Hoyle [and] Tahar Rahim."

"Yes, it's popcorn TV, but there are twists, rug-pulls and a climactic corpse-strewn gun battle," they added.

Prisoner is streaming now via NOW and Sky.
