Martin Compston's new period drama Wax Fruit has added All Creatures Great and Small star Nicholas Ralph to its cast.
Set in 19th-century Glasgow, one of the most "powerful" cities in the world at the time, the upcoming series follows the Moorhouse family as they rise from rural obscurity to the top of Victorian society.
"Set between the Gaelic-speaking Highlands and the gritty streets of Victorian Glasgow, Wax Fruit follows the explosive rise of the Moorhouse family," reads the synopsis, which teases a city of "glamour".
Confirming the news on Thursday (26 June), the official Instagram account for Wax Fruit shared a screengrab of a news article reporting Ralph's casting, which they captioned: "Welcome to the Moorhouse Clan."
Joining Ralph and Compston on the cast are Shetland’s Ashley Jensen, Fleabag star Bill Paterson, Emun Elliott, Shirley Henderson, Molly Windsor, Elaine C Smith, Kenny Doughty, Juliet Cadzow, and Aftersun's Frankie Corio.

Based on Scottish author Guy McCrone's trilogy of the same name, Wax Fruit is described as a "sweeping, character-driven period drama with a sharp, modern edge", with the series being dubbed "Succession meets Bridgerton, in tartan" (via Hello!).
On joining the cast, Ralph praised showrunner Sarah Purser, saying: "Sarah's passion, energy and deep knowledge of the material and history was totally inspiring and with the incredible Scottish actors and creatives she had involved - some legends - I was already enamoured.
"Then Sarah sent episode one. I devoured it — all the characters are so well drawn and unique, but at the heart you have the big bold Moorhouse family. I love the world, the time period and these wonderful characters and I am so invested. Needless to say, I’m very excited to be joining the Wax Fruit gang."

"The top-tier talent that Wax Fruit is attracting is testament to the quality of the source material and the skill and calibre of our scriptwriting team. We are thrilled with the ongoing interest and excitement."
A release date for Wax Fruit is yet to be announced.
