A long-running ITV drama is getting an American remake, with a star of The Handmaid's Tale taking on an iconic role previously played by Martin Clunes.
Doc Martin ran for 10 seasons and multiple specials between 2004 and 2022, wrapping up on Christmas Day two and a half years ago.
But now it's returning in a new form across the pond, with a new name.
Deadline reports that network Fox has given a full series order to Best Medicine, described as "based on" Doc Martin, with Josh Charles playing the renamed Doctor Martin Best.
The actor is known for playing Will Gardner in The Good Wife, and has also had roles in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Masters of Sex, and The Veil. Most recently, he appeared in the latest season of The Handmaid's Tale as Commander Wharton.
The series, which will premiere at some point in the 2025-2026 season, follows Doctor Best as he leaves behind a successful career in Boston to work as a GP in a small village on the East Coast, where he spent his summers as a child.

However, his plan to be mostly left alone and live a quiet life doesn't go to plan, as the quirky and needy locals quickly rely on him. Unfortunately for them, he's pretty blunt and rude, and has issues stopping him from truly connecting with people.
However, while the doctor and his new patients rub each other up the wrong way at first, they'll soon start to realise that they're actually good for each other.
The publication states that the network believed Charles' casting was the key to the success of Best Medicine's pilot episode, with the green light coming after the actor closed a deal to star in a full series.
Executive producer Ben Silverman said: "The entire Propagate team is thrilled to be working with Fox Entertainment on this extraordinary adaptation by Liz Tuccillo of the global hit Doc Martin.
"Josh Charles is the perfect lead for this brilliantly character-driven comedic procedural. Best Medicine is a world we'll all want to be part of."
Doc Martin is available to stream on ITVX.
