Gangs of London season 3 spoilers follow.

Gangs of London's Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù opens up about the loss of key cast member in season three of the Sky crime drama.

The latest season saw the death of Sean Wallace (Joe Cole) in episode two. Speaking on Cole's abrupt exit, Dìrísù said it would be a "big loss".

"Really and truly, the family that we've created with Gangs in the cast is like, we've got some really strong bonds," the actor told Digital Spy exclusively.

"And Joe especially, because I knew him from before when we were at the National Youth Theatre in Great Britain together.

"Obviously Elliot and Sean have a 'passa' that they can't get past, but to know that Joe won't be a part of the series anymore was really sad actually."

He added: "As humans, we all have to grow and move on and do different things, but there is an emptiness to his absence.

"I wasn't there," the star said. "Otherwise I would have just wanted to cap him off, but I imagine that it was a celebration of everything that he's brought to the show so far. He's a wonderful actor. He's a great person, so it's going to be a big loss."

Reflecting on the rest of the latest season, the Elliot actor shared which character's arc he was excited for the fans to see.

"[Narges Rashidi's character Lale] goes through a lot this year. I'm looking forward to what the audience's reaction to that is going to be."

The actor also admitted that Rashidi's season two performance was among those he found particularly hard to watch back, stating: "That sequence with Lale, where she fights her way out of Asif's yard, only to be returned by Sean.

"Aw man, that was a betrayal like I'd never seen on TV before. That will cut deep."

All 8 episodes of Gangs of London season 3 will launch as a box set on Sky Atlantic and the streaming service NOW from March 20.
