Gangs of London has confirmed a release window for its third season.

The hit Sky crime drama starring Joe Cole and Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù will be back in March – though a specific date has yet to be confirmed.

Alongside the announcement today, the broadcaster also unveiled an action-packed first trailer for the new episodes.

In the preview, we follow the aftermath of a spiked cocaine shipment killing hundreds, as new cast addition T'Nia Miller's authority figure promises a crackdown on crime.

"London is at the feet of the criminal gangs… well, no more," she declares. "Your days of terrorising this city are numbered."

Gangs of London is based on a 2006 video game and follows the struggles between rival gangs and criminal organisations in the UK capital.

Season 3 follows the chaos over the spiked cocaine deaths, as Dìrísù's former undercover cop turned gangster Elliot navigates his new role as a top criminal with the Dumanis.

However, the spiking has turned their operations upside down, and the Wallaces, Luan, Lale, and the street gangs "face devastating consequences as personal vendettas collide with professional power struggles bleeding into violent turf wars".

"In the ruthless fight for control of London’s criminal underworld, no one is safe," the synopsis adds. "This was no accident — it was a calculated attack. But who’s pulling the strings?"

As well as Dìrísù and Cole, the new episodes will see the returns of Michelle Fairley, Lucian Msamati, Brian Vernel, Narges Rashidi, Pippa Bennett-Warner, Asif Raza Mir, Orli and Eri Shuka, Jahz Armando and Fady Elsayed.

The third season will also see some new faces join the fray, including Sex Education's Miller, Black Doves' Andrew Koji, Game of Thrones' Richard Dormer, EastEnders' Phil Daniels, Brassic's Ruth Sheen and Kaos' Mat Fraser.

Gangs of London season 3 will premiere in March, airing on Sky Atlantic and streaming service NOW.
