Fans have been anxiously waiting for news of Nancy's return since her abrupt departure so early on in the season.

Call the Midwife addressed her absence in the show making it clear that Nancy had taken up a new job in a countryside hospital complete with a home for her, Nancy and later Roger. However fans hadn't expected the former Nonnatus nurse to be absent for most of the season.

Viewers expressed their concern on social media with one X user staying: "Did Nancy go, and was there no grand finale because where is she? If she's gone just like that, I will be steamed. She's a fan favourite and deserves better."

While another fan questioned: "Where's Nancy? She was supposed to be having a spring wedding and in Call The Midwife it's now September!"

Hers is not the only character whose future on the show is in doubt. Matthew Aylward actor Olly Rix was tipped to be joining Casualty back in July 2024 and has since made an official announcement about his new role with first-look pics.

In a joint post with Rix, the BBC's official Casualty Instagram page welcomed the actor to the team stating: "Welcome to the E.D, @olly.rix. The E.D's new Clinical Lead, Flynn Byron joins the NHS fresh from a tour of duty. He's a man with a purpose, and with a fierce resolve to make a difference. Look out for Flynn in the upcoming #Casualty boxset #InternalAffairs."

His exit on Call the Midwife still hasn't been officially confirmed so whether he will return as a recurring guest or be written out is still not clear.

Call the Midwife airs on BBC One and streams on BBC iPlayer.
