Former Call the Midwife star Megan Cusack has revealed her new career path since leaving the BBC period drama. The actor, who portrayed Nancy Corrigan, departed at the end of the 14th season last year, and teased that she would be stepping out of her "comfort zone".
Speaking with Radio Times, Cusack finally shared where her career has taken her in the ensuing months, with the actor revealing that she has now swapped the small screen for the stage.
"I made the choice [to leave Call the Midwife] because I wanted to try and get into theatre again," she said, before adding: "But it doesn't mean that it wasn't heartbreaking not being there [anymore]."

Since leaving, Cusack starred alongside Bridgerton's Nicola Coughlan in The Playboy of the Western World. Cusack portrayed Susan Brady in the National Theatre play, which ran from December 2025 to February 2026 at the Lyttelton Theatre.
Cusack also spoke of the "gorgeous" support she had received from her former-co-stars, with the actor sharing that Georgie Clen, Linda Bassett, Rebecca Gethings and Annabelle Apsion had all watched one of her recent shows.

Of adjusting to life away from Poplar, Cusack said: "It is a mad kind of change. We film for seven months of the year [on Call the Midwife] so you end up seeing those people more than your own family, more than your partners... You do start to feel like it's a home."
"I bawled my eyes out on my last day. I was absolutely devastated, but the nice thing was knowing that it wasn't the last time I was seeing people. It's just, yeah, a change in work life," she added.
Call the Midwife takes a slightly longer hiatus between seasons as the annual Christmas special won't be airing this year. In its place, the BBC will be dropping a three-part prequel series set during the Blitz.
The eagerly-awaited spin-off will centre around the early careers of fan-favourite characters such as Judy Parfitt's Sister Monica Joan, Jenny Agutter's Sister Julienne and Pam Ferris's Evangelina.

The prequel series, which is currently untitled, will then be followed by a highly-anticipated Call the Midwife movie, which will be set abroad in 1972 and feature characters from the existing series.
While there has been no official release date for the 16th season of Call the Midwife, the series' producers Neal Street have confirmed that, along with two more Christmas specials, the series will return "in due course".
Call the Midwife airs on BBC One and streams on BBC iPlayer.
