Call the Midwife season 14 episode 1 spoilers follow.

Call the Midwife's Nancy (Megan Cusack) is packing up and leaving Nonnatus for a job at Netherditch hospital.

If you're sensing a little déjà vu it's because we've definitely been here before. That same tempting countryside hospital (with its offer of a rent-free, two-bed home) has resurfaced with another offer for Nancy, only this time she's keen not to refuse.

After speaking to her new love Roger (Conor O'Donnell) about the opportunity she becomes all the more convinced that this is the right step for her and her daughter Colette (Francesca Fullilove).

Roger excitedly shares that location is perfect given that it will be closer to him – until they get married that is.

Yes, that's right, the whirlwind romance that began a Christmas special ago is sprinting down the aisle and, apparently, right out of Poplar but could Nancy really be leaving Call the Midwife?

Is Nancy leaving Call the Midwife?

Megan Cusack has revealed that she is not leaving Call the Midwife, which means Nancy is here for the foreseeable.

Cusack confirmed this ahead of the release of the new series. When asked about her possible exit, the actress told press:

"No, just because she's fallen in love, she's not leaving us just yet.

"There's lots of things happening, she's got lots going on, you know, a job offer, an engagement, an overbearing mother-in-law-to-be. So she's got a lot going on."

So what does this mean for the state of Nancy and Roger's relationship? And will she be leaving Nonnatus house temporarily? It certainly seems so.

Roger has well and truly swept Nancy off of her feet and of equal importance is the care and affection he's shown to Colette.

"It was lovely," Cusack shared during the same aforementioned interview. "I never thought that Nancy would have a romance.

"I just didn't think it would ever come about." But could their love be a little too good to be true?

Scarier than Roger's mother is the intensity with which this relationship has progressed. While it's possible it could be a wholesome, instant connection it's also impossible to avoid wondering whether or not Roger's intentions are true.

We've already speculated on the possible dark side to Roger and Nancy's relationship: his tendency to flood their interactions with sweeping romantic declarations barely gives her a second to work out what she needs.

It's possible that Nancy and Colette could move into the cottage house ahead of the pair's nuptials while she starts a new job but if this the idyllic fantasy life turns out be just that, a fantasy, it could be what compels the nurse to return to Poplar.

However if this is indeed true love and Roger is the good guy he's being painted out to be then it's also likely that this new life may not be a right fit for the new family who could find a way to make it work in east London.

Either way all signs ultimately point to Nancy keeping her job at Nonnatus. We'll just have to wait and see how the details work themselves out.

Call the Midwife season 14 airs weekly on Sundays, 8pm BBC One and streams on BBC iPlayer.
