EastEnders stars Jo Joyner and Tamzin Outhwaite's new drama The Wives has landed a release date

Channel 5 has confirmed that The Wives will premiere on Monday, September 16, at 9pm, with new episodes continuing each night through Wednesday, September 18 (via Radio Times).

Joyner and Outhwaite headline the mystery series with Waterloo Road and Coronation Street legend Angela Griffin, alongside Beyond Paradise's Jamie Bamber.

Griffin, Joyner and Outhwaite play sisters-in-law who are on a yearly holiday to Malta after their fellow sister-in-law Annabelle (Christine Bottomley) was killed in an apparent accident.

When Annabelle's husband (Bamber) begins dating a woman (Katie Clarkson-Hill) who could be her double, the trio becomes suspicious that there is more than meets the eye to their sister-in-law's death.

As the wives try to unravel this possible conspiracy, they will have to contend with "corrupt officials, drug cartels and career criminals closer to home than ever expected".

The supporting cast features Ghosts' Ben Willbond, Catastrophe's Jonathan Forbes and former Holby City star Ajay Chhabra.

Channel 5 announced The Wives was in production back in March, with Griffin promising the show is full of "warmth, female friendship, humour, with a huge whodunnit in the middle".

"I am thrilled to be playing Sylvie alongside the rest of this brilliant cast," Outhwaite added. "The Wives is set to be filled with lots of drama and even more beautiful Malta scenery. I can’t wait for Channel 5 audiences to be swept away on the adventure.”

Joyner said in a statement: "I’m so pleased to be working with Gaumont and in Malta again on The Wives, an exciting female-led thriller.

"I’ve become so fond of Malta and its warm and welcoming people, coupled with working with this great cast, not least of all Angela Griffin and Tamzin Outhwaite, this is going to be a fantastic piece. I can’t wait to get started.”

The Wives premieres on Monday, September 16, at 9pm on Channel 5.
