A star of Channel 4 documentary Benefits Street has been charged with a number of drug offences.

Samora Roberts is one of six residents of James Turner Street, Birmingham, to be charged following police raids last June, BBC News has reported.

A seventh person who lives at an address in Handsworth was also charged as part of the investigation.

Roberts, nicknamed 'Black Dee', has featured prominently in the Channel 4 documentary that follows the lives of people living in James Turner Street.

The 32-year-old has been charged with conspiracy to supply cannabis, conspiracy to supply cocaine and possession of diamorphine. She has also been charged with unauthorised possession of ammunition for a firearm.

All of the defendants are due to appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court on February 6.
