"Jaime [Vaca], Netflix and I thought it was time to end it. I say this with great regret because it’s been several incredible years in which I’ve met wonderful actors," he shared during a recent press conference (via Deadline).

"Élite changed everyone's life. There are actors who started with us and it has been their springboard to be now world stars. It is happening to this cast and it is a pride to have contributed to that and to know that they have seen us all over the world and liked it."

So, what can we expect from the final season, and when can we expect it? Here's everything you need to know.

Élite season 8 potential release date: When will it air on Netflix?

Élite season 8 plot: What will happen?

In season seven's final episode, Sara warns Carmen about Chloe's abusive new boyfriend, Raúl.

When Carmen heads over to the apartment to confront Raúl about his behaviour towards her daughter, things get heated, and she ends up pushing him off the balcony, killing him.

Although Carmen and Chloe attempt to frame Raúl's death as a suicide, the episode's final moments reveal that Joel and Omar's flatmate Dalmar caught it all on camera.

Dalmar doesn't show the video to the police but is still conflicted. We'll just have to wait until season eight arrives to see if he'll turn Carmen in or help her cover up Raúl's murder.

While there are sure to be plenty more twists, turns and betrayals to come (this is Élite, after all), Montero has assured fans that the show will ultimately end on a "high note".

Élite season 8 trailer: When will it land on Netflix?
