Avowed is Xbox's newest big game, and there's a lot of anticipation surrounding it, considering it's from Obsidian Entertainment.
This being an RPG adventure with plenty of exploration and choice, you might be wondering about Avowed's length and how long it takes to beat the game.
Two of us at Digital Spy played the title ahead of its release, and reached the end credits with completely different approaches – one almost entirely focusing on the main story, the other being a completionist and experiencing pretty much everything the game has to offer.

For a completionist playthrough, you're looking at more than 60 hours. This number comes from my colleague Joe Draper, who reviewed the game (you can read his full thoughts here).
He finished every side quest that he encountered, and thoroughly explored each of the four main regions in the Living Lands. He adds that you could stretch your playtime even further if you're determined enough to find every single treasure and artefact out there.

However, maybe you're someone who prefers to 'mainline' the story. That's what I did. In that case, you're looking at around 20 hours.
I hit close to 20 hours without deviating much from the main quests. I only did a very small handful of side quests and rarely strayed from the direction of map markers.
There's a great deal of flexibility in how you can tackle the game. Many of the side quests add to the Living Lands setting, the conflicts, and the companions that you travel with, and you will experience the game to the fullest in a completionist playthrough.
For a 'mainline' playthrough, you'll miss out on a lot of the world-building and on really bonding with your companions. Much of the side content does feed back into the main narrative in interesting ways. However, for those who don't have the time, the main story is still engaging by itself with plenty to enjoy and appreciate.
Avowed is out on February 18 on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and Game Pass. The game's early-access launch is today.
