Nintendo has officially unveiled the Nintendo Switch 2, while also teasing the next Mario Kart game.

After several weeks of leaks and intense rumours surrounding the Nintendo Switch successor, Nintendo released a two-minute video on YouTube showcasing its next console.

The Nintendo Switch 2 has plenty of similarities to the Nintendo Switch, but the first trailer shows a larger screen and magnetic Joy-cons, as well as a brief moment demonstrating the Joy-cons being used like a computer mouse.

The video has footage of the Nintendo Switch 2 appearing to run a brand new Mario Kart.

In the Mario Kart footage, at least 15 racers including Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Bowser can be seen racing around a desert-themed track. There is speculation that the game could feature up to 24 drivers on the same track, with 24 grid slots seen at the starting line.

The trailer also confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 will launch this year, although an exact release date was not shared. There will, however, be a special Nintendo Direct presentation for the Nintendo Switch 2 on April 2, so we can likely expect Nintendo to reveal upcoming games for the new platform then.

The Nintendo Switch 2 will include backwards compatibility with Nintendo Switch games, although there is a note in the trailer that says "certain Nintendo Switch games" may not be fully compatible with the new console.
