Dean is determined to make sure the surf competition goes ahead. But although he has organised entrants and new sponsors, Alf thinks it won't be enough. Seeing how stressed Alf is, Roo suggests that he take a step back. Alf refuses, but admits that muck-raking articles in the newspaper are adding to his stress.
Roo convinces Alf to do an interview with the Coastal News about the Surf Club's money woes, detailing the emotional cost of Susie's wrongdoing. Roo and Alf meet with a journalist at the Diner, where Alf makes a heartfelt statement about the loss the community would suffer if the Surf Club closed.
Leila, the journalist, is sympathetic, but after hearing the juicy details of John's involvement, she's more intrigued, asking if she can call John for a quote. Roo happily gives her John's number, and she and Alf are buoyed when Leila says the story should garner a lot of interest.

Meanwhile, Willow is anxious as she waits for Alex to return her call. Although she's momentarily distracted by helping Dean organise the surf competition, she's relieved when Alex finally rings back. She's initially hopeful, but later relays to Dean that Alex didn't suggest getting back together. Irene encourages her to drive up to Queensland to seek answers in person.
That night, Willow meets Dean at Salt where he's shocked to learn she has decided to move to Queensland to try to reconcile with Alex. Willow badly wants his approval, but he walks away without giving his blessing.
Elsewhere, Lewis is still stewing about Christian being cleared for work, prompting a worried Jasmine to suggest he take time off to deal with it. When Christian arrives at work, he takes Lewis aside to ask that they try to get along at work. Lewis refuses, telling Christian he won't let more people die because of him. Christian is despairing, telling Tori he tried.
Jasmine seeks out Lewis, saying he needs to find a way to put an end to his problem. Lewis agrees, telling a shocked Jasmine he's going to have Christian charged for assault. Later, everyone is working in the ED side by side, and Tori and Christian are starting to think things have improved… when Constable Murray arrives to arrest a shocked Christian.
Later, when Christian returns home, he tells an upset Tori he's facing two years in jail and that he has ruined their lives. Tori tries to comfort him, but he tells her he just wants to be alone.
