Channel 5 has teased a first look at Hollyoaks star Claire Cooper in new drama The Hardacres.
Cooper, known for playing Jacqui McQueen on the Channel 4 soap, appears in the new period drama based on CL Skelton's best-selling Hardacre book series.
First-look photos show the actor as Mary Hardacre, wife of Sam Hardacre (Liam McMahon), decked out in Victorian clothing for the 1890s-set Yorkshire drama.
Mary and Sam are a happily married couple who find themselves on hard times after an accident at Sam's dockland workplace leaves him unemployed and broke.

Rounding out the Hardacre family are Mary's mother (Ridley and Shetland's Julie Graham) and their three children Harry, Liza and Joe, with Joe played by Coronation Street and Ackley Bridge's Adam Little.

A release date for The Hardacres is yet to be revealed, but the drama is expected to air soon. It was teased in Channel 5's autumn trailer alongside upcoming shows The Teacher season 2 and All Creatures Great and Small.

The Hardacres will comprise of six hour-long episodes and has been adapted for television by Call the Midwife writer Loren McLaughlan and Amy Roberts.
David Stern, Executive Producer and Joint Managing Director of Playground, the production company behind The Hardacres praised the show's cast ahead of its release.
"Audiences will undoubtedly fall in love with our fantastic group of actors, made up of both seasoned talent and exciting new faces, as they bring this spirited and sweeping rags to riches saga to life on screen," he said in a statement (via TV Zone).
The Hardacres marks Cooper's first role since her surprise Hollyoaks cameo last December, where she returned to give sister Mercedes some hard truths.
The Hardacres is set to air on Channel 5 in autumn 2024.
