Hollyoaks spoilers follow.
Hollyoaks newcomer Bethannie Hare has revealed that her character Cher Winters is keeping a big secret.
Bethannie made her first appearance as Cher – the long-lost daughter of Sylver McQueen – in June and has been settling into the village ever since.
Earlier this week, Sylver (David Tag) was seen encouraging Cher to open up to the family more, sensing that she was holding something back. Cher still didn't take the opportunity to be honest with her dad.
Speaking to Digital Spy about the new storyline, Bethannie explained: "Cher is definitely a typical McQueen with a sassy attitude! But I think she keeps a lot to herself, too. She keeps a front up, which she has done a lot with Romeo and even her own family.

"Cher has gone in with quite a big secret. She's scared to let people in, in case they find out and they don't like her anymore.
"Sylver is trying to be a dad to Cher and in the next few weeks you'll definitely see a different side to them. They're both definitely going to end up going through some things, which will either bring them closer or tear them apart.
"Whatever they go through will be make or break for them and the family."
On how much she knows about long-term plans for Cher, Bethannie continued: "I know a little bit, but you find out more every time you get a new script. When you start, you have a meeting with the producers and you find out about the character, the storylines and what's to come.

"But I'm so excited for what's coming up. I just want to make sure I do a good job for all the viewers and everyone at Hollyoaks. I'm nervous but excited.
"Cher's mum left her and there's a secret she has been keeping for ages. She's so scared that it will get out. I don't think I can say what it is, but I think that's why she's being so reserved with her dad, her family and Romeo.
"Coming up, we might find out what the secret is. Then you might see Cher acting differently and other people may start acting differently towards her."
Bethannie started filming at Hollyoaks earlier this year, but was only at work for a few weeks before production went on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since then, Hollyoaks' cast and crew have returned to work with strict social distancing rules in place on set.
Bethannie told us: "It's nice to be back. It was weird because I started, I was getting used to the new job and then lockdown happened and it all stopped. I went back home to Leeds and it was so surreal.
"Every day, I was refreshing my emails hoping that we'd get a date to go back filming. I'm glad to be filming again as I missed it so much.
"It's very different on set now. When we're filming, we're only allowed a certain number of crew and cast on set at any one time. We're also keeping a two-metre distance, although they've come up with some ways to edit round it and make it look closer on screen.
"It is weird because in some scenes, you're talking from the other side of the room! But it feels like the new normal and we're used to it now. I think it'll feel strange when it goes back to normal."
Hollyoaks currently airs new episodes on Mondays to Thursdays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4. Classic episodes, titled Hollyoaks Favourites, air on Fridays at 7pm on E4.
