Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

Hollyoaks star Imran Adams has defended Mitchell Deveraux's decision to propose to Scott Drinkwell so soon into their rocky relationship.

Monday's E4 first look episode (May 4) will see Mitchell pop the question to Scott as he desperately tries to get their romance back on track.

Scott (Ross Adams) is currently doubting Mitchell after he came under suspicion of attacking his father Felix Westwood. Fans know that Mitchell's brother Toby Faroe was the real culprit.

The upcoming scenes see Scott pack Mitchell's things as he's fed up with so much drama surrounding his boyfriend. Mitchell continues to protest his innocence and even proposes to prove his commitment to their relationship.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy about his character's latest drama, Imran explained: "Mitchell is devastated over the suspicion he's facing over Felix's attack. It's a mixture of being hurt and scared, because he has been in trouble with the police before and fears his job and his reputation could be under threat.

"It's an overwhelming time for him, especially so soon after finding out that his entire family has been based on a lie.

"The one person Mitchell needed to be by his side and support him was Scott, but when Scott thinks about Mitchell's behaviour in the past, he can't help thinking of him as a suspect.

"Mitchell finds that suspicion a hard thing to digest, especially with how much he loves Scott."

On the proposal – and responding to the question of whether it's too soon – Imran added: "Mitchell wants to get engaged because he discovers that he loves Scott at his best and his worst.

"Mitchell realises that he loves Scott unconditionally at any stage, even when Scott is upset or angry with him. You'll see that he proposes in the best 'Mitchell' way. It's so innocent and beautiful and I'm so happy the audience are able to see that from LGBTQ+ culture.

"I think time doesn't really matter when it's matters of the heart. Because Mitchell and Scott have been through so much in a short space of time, Mitchell is mature enough to know that they love each other more each day so it'd be stupid to wait. They're madly in love with each other and they have to take that risk."

Hollyoaks airs Mitchell's proposal on Monday, May 4 at 7pm on E4 and Tuesday, May 5 at 6.30pm on Channel 4.
