Former Emmerdale scriptwriter Sharon Marshall has confirmed she has returned to rival show EastEnders as a writer.

The soap legend announced earlier this year that she had departed from the Dales' writing team, and has now revealed that she's back in Albert Square, having previously worked on the show between 2011 and 2015.

Appearing on yesterday's (April 26) This Morning, co-presenter Phillip Schofield mentioned that she was joining EastEnders.

"I am," she replied. "I've been over at EastEnders for a little while now. My first episode is coming up next Wednesday."

When a photo of her on the show's set was then shown, Sharon quipped: "It's obligatory that you've got to do that shot when you join.

"I'm part of the writing team now, I'm thrilled to say I've gone back," she continued. "I've got an episode next week, all about Keanu and Ravi and Sharon. Oh my gosh, writing Sharon [Watts] and Phil [Mitchell] is just amazing!

"I'm lucky to be there. I tell you that team's on fire," Sharon added. "I just heard about what they have planned and I just said, 'I want in'."

The writer, who is also This Morning's resident Soap Expert, revealed in January on Twitter that she had signed off on her final Emmerdale script.

"My last Emmerdale is on tonight at 7.30pm. Off to writing pastures new now but it’s been an absolute joy and privilege to play in the Dales for six years," she said. "I’ll hugely miss the fabulous team."

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX. EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
