Emmerdale bosses have discussed the possibility of characters being killed off in the show's upcoming storm disaster.

The show recently announced that dangerous weather will hit the village this October, in special episodes to mark Emmerdale's 50th anniversary.

The news has unsurprisingly sparked plenty of speculation about whether some of the villagers could be facing tragic endings in the high-stakes storyline.

Asked by Digital Spy whether there'll be a death in the storm, executive producer Jane Hudson cryptically teased: "I think it's fair to say that if you're going to do a storm in Emmerdale to celebrate your 50th anniversary, there are going to be huge consequences for some of our villagers…"

Fellow producer Kate Brooks added that the 50th anniversary isn't just about the storm.

The ITV soap is planning to make October a whole month of celebration, with big story peaks airing across multiple weeks.

Brooks told us: "There's always an element of pressure to make sure that people enjoy what you're doing and make sure they enjoy the show to the full capacity.

"But this is very much a different kettle of fish, in that it's the 50th and it's a month of celebration. It's not just about the stunt, even though the stunt will be amazing and incredible and people will hopefully love watching it.

"There's a whole array of different stories, which will really showcase Emmerdale in all its glory."

Emmerdale has previously confirmed that the storm will coincide with Kim Tate and Will Taylor's upcoming wedding.

Aaron Dingle, Tracy Metcalfe and Diane Sugden will also be making temporary returns for the big episodes.

The build-up to the storm will also see Faith Dingle's emotional storyline come to a head.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV and streams on the ITV Hub.
