Emmerdale's David Metcalfe, Jacob Gallagher and Leyla Harding finally discovered who the mystery father of Maya Stepney's baby is in tonight's (December 30) tense episode.
The family discovered a newborn on their doorstep on Christmas Day with a note from Maya, and while they were at first convinced it wasn't even hers, doubts soon began to set in.
David had been concerned that, if the baby was Maya and Jacob's, it would completely ruin the teenager's life and undo all the progress he has made in trying to recover from being groomed.
He even asked Dr Liam Cavanagh to fake the results of the paternity test if Jacob was indeed confirmed to be the father – but the doctor refused.
In tonight's scenes, Liam presented an anxious David with the results, which he soon shared with Jacob and Leyla.

Gathered together in the shop, Leyla opened the results and revealed that Jacob was NOT the father, much to everyone's relief.
While it was the best possible outcome for the family, David was still visible struck by the realisation that the baby must be his.
