EastEnders spoilers follow.

EastEnders star Balvinder Sopal has teased the aftermath of tonight's shocking Jags Panesar twist.

Jags was arrested in Tuesday's episode (October 6) after his scheming mum Suki shopped him to the police over Martin's assault. In reality, Jag's impulsive brother Vinny was actually the one responsible.

Despite being aware of this, Suki decided to teach Jags a lesson – furious over his relationship with Habiba Ahmed.

Explaining Suki's manipulative behaviour, Balvinder – who plays Suki – told Digital Spy: "It was another thing that just tipped her over the edge.

"Jags is the weakest member of the family, or certainly has been, and isn't really fulfilling his role within the family. Suki just thinks he needs to be taught a lesson. If Jags continues the way he is going, the family will be in trouble."

Balvinder continued: "Jags is already questioning everything, and then she finds out he has a girlfriend. I think it could have been anybody and she would have had the same reaction. If he's got a girlfriend, he is going to be more romantic and more loved-up and not care about his family duties as much.

"Romance softens people, Suki feels. She is not prepared to lose him to anybody so she'd rather shop him in herself. That is how we've tried to play it. In the scenes we looked at, it was just that he wasn't committed to anything – he doesn't have an anchor and this girlfriend is only going to take him further away from the family."

Although the aftermath of Jags' arrest will continue to play out for the rest of the week, we know that it's ultimately paving the way for his exit. Amar Adatia has already filmed his final scenes in the role.

Teasing the family's reaction to Suki's actions, Balvinder added: "Ash is going to be horrified, I think they all will be. Kheerat is thinking, 'This is classic mum', while Vinny is slightly relieved but not entirely happy – he is off the hook so the eyes are off him.

"Ash is her mum's biggest enemy, I think, and it would be really interesting to explore the relationship between those two further. Ash is disgusted with her mum. Suki doesn't care though – she just thinks she's taken care of something that needed to be taken care of. She knows they will still come home for food and to chill on the sofa.

"Suki is always going to have the upper hand. It's that classic thing of, 'Do what you've got to do and then apologise later'. She never apologises, she just thinks: 'That happened – next!' That is what I love about her, she is so unapologetic about everything.

"She doesn't care who she upsets or who she ends up having an argument with. It doesn't matter to her. All she cares about is satisfying her own needs and desires."

So, what does Balvinder think the future holds for the Panesar family in the wake of Jags' exit?

"I don't think they have recovered from the whole cancer thing," Balvinder explained. "It's that thing of trying to bury your feelings and I think the family do that a lot when it comes to Suki – they bury their feelings. That is Suki's way of dealing with it too.

"But this time, maybe there might be some comeuppance. I don't know how much I can say. They will have their opinions about this but, at the end of the day, they will do what their mum tells them to do.

"We are all human at the end of the day. When things upset us, we have to go through the motions and Suki's way is to deal with it and then move on."

EastEnders continues on Thursday, October 8 at 7.35pm on BBC One.
