EastEnders: Secrets from the Square host Stacey Dooley has addressed some recent criticism aimed at her research.
Following yesterday's (June 29) broadcast, The Thunder Girls author Melanie Blake shared her frustration with the spin-off show on Twitter – initially taking issue with Ian Beale star Adam Woodyatt's introduction.
Then came her reaction to Stacey's work.

Next to a GIF stating 'DO YOUR RESEARCH', Melanie blasted: "Stacey Dooley not even knowing who Julia Smith – who co-created Eastenders – was. Not even researching the show you're presenting is one thing, not even bothering to read the research material someone else has probably handed to you is another – terrible."
Unhappy with this analysis, the Strictly Come Dancing winner went on to retweet the author's criticism with some words of her own.

"I did know who Julia was Melanie," replied Stacey. "The director (quite rightly) asked me to pick it up, as you can't assume everyone watching knows this.

"It's my job to ask the questions, not display my in depth knowledge of a soap opera. Ta for your feedback though [five kissing emojis]."
Yet Melanie couldn't let this one go, as she responded later on: "Well then the edit made it look like you didn't know – happy to give you the feedback – it came across on screen really badly, so there we are."
Stacey retweeted that one, too, with the simple label "Twitter 2020".
EastEnders: Secrets from the Square continues on Monday, July 6 at 8pm on BBC One.
