Coronation Street star Sue Cleaver has hinted that the show could see a bit of a tonal shift once filming resumes.

The show recently shut down production due to coronavirus (COVID-19), with the number of weekly episodes airing cut down as well.

Speaking to Inside Soap about playing Eileen Grimshaw and whether she likes filming scenes showing her character putting the world to rights with her mates in the pub, Sue expressed hopes that we would see more of those in the future.

"I absolutely love those scenes," she said. "That's one thing that's changed, there's not so many of those any more and I love them.

"I think seeing characters in situ, just talking about nonsense or having a moan is great. They are the classic Corrie scenes. I wonder whether, with this production gap and what's happening, there will be more of that..."

The show will have to adhere to social distancing rules when it resumes filming, so scenes involving big crowds are unlikely to happen. Does this mean we could get more conversational scenes and storylines?

It comes after Geoff Metcalfe actor Ian Bartholomew opened up about how the shutdown is affecting the show's storylines.

"I think in the forefront of everybody's mind at the moment is what happens after this is all over," he said. "What happens after lockdown? What happens when we get back to it? Because it will change.

"It will change the map of how we work and how we make the programme, because we'll have to have social distancing. We'll have to have smaller crews. And that's the headaches that the writers and the producers and storyliners have at the moment."
