Coronation Street star Sam Aston has revealed how his character Chesney Brown reacts to Gemma Winter's (Dolly Rose Campbell) depression.

Chesney is set to learn about his partner Gemma's depression struggle, after she accidentally endangers their babies.

Speaking recently, Sam revealed that Chesney is "horrified" when Gemma finally confides in him about her depression, and quickly realises that she needs medical help.

"[Chesney] and Bernie try to talk to her but [Gemma] gets upset and refuses to speak to them both and storms out of the house," he said.

"Chesney is worried sick but when she returns having spoken to Rita, she finally tells him just how bad things have got and that she is a terrible mother.

"Chesney is horrified to realise she has been feeling like this and he realises she needs to see the doctor."

Sam added: "Hopefully we might be able to help someone else recognise if they are going through something similar and maybe encourage them to seek help."

Sam's comment follow Dolly-Rose Campbell also opening up about the depression storyline.

"As the story develops it becomes clear to Gemma that this is more than just the baby blues and tiredness and she will be forced to come to terms with the fact that she is ill and needs help," she said.

Coronation Street is currently airing on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm on ITV.
