Coronation Street newcomer Bernie Winter will come up with a novel way to make some money next week.
Former Casualty star Jane Hazlegrove has taken on the role of Gemma's troublesome mother, who made her first appearance on the cobbles last month.
After arriving, Bernie told Gemma that she was about to be made homeless and needs some help. While Gemma was keen to give her mum a chance, her twin brother Paul Foreman remained sceptical over Bernie's arrival and warned that it'll all end in tears.
Sure enough, it looks like Paul may have had a point as upcoming scenes will see Bernie hatch a controversial scheme in a bid to make some much-needed cash.
As she rattles a fake charity tin, Bernie falsely claims out she’s collecting for sick children, when in reality, she's collecting money to pay off a parking fine.
However, Bernie's scams don't end there as she is later given food for thought when pregnant Gemma returns home for a wee – only to find the toilet is broken.
What to Read Next
Gemma is forced to go in a bucket as a result, with Bernie then using her wee to produce a stack of positive pregnancy tests.
Bernie's plan becomes clear when she later explains to Michael that she blocked the loo on purpose to allow her to harvest Gemma’s wee and sell positive pregnancy tests on the internet.
Gobsmacked, Michael advises Bernie that if she wants to make serious money she should buy the pregnancy kits in bulk and sell them on a legitimate site.
Spotting an opportunity, Michael even agrees to go into business with Bernie for 25% of the profits, but how will Gemma feel when she finds out what's going on?
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
