It's almost as though Alexander McQueen's daring catwalk creations were made especially for Lady Gaga. In 2010, the 'Bad Romance' singer wore this show-stopping gown - complete with McQueen's trademark armadillo shoes - to the MTV VMAs.

In one of McQueen's more wearable designs, Michelle Obama stood out for the right reasons in 2011 with this daring red print floor-length gown. The asymmetrical off-the-shoulder detail kept this the right side of primness, and it was a bold choice of designer for the First Lady.

4. Drew Barrymore

Drew Barrymore isn't a celebrity known for her edgy fashion, but this daring choice in 2009 showed McQueen at his best. Paired with her cropped shaggy 'do, this canary yellow chiffon dress was saved from feeling too safe by being encased in intricate black lace overlay.

5. Cheryl Fernandez-Versini

Cheryl Fernandez-Versini (then Cole) stunned in this McQueen creation at her 26th birthday party in 2009. With draped pink detailing and bold cutaway sheer panelling on both the front and back, it signified a key moment in her transformation to A-list.

6. The Duchess of Cambridge

Wedding dresses don't come more showstopping than this beautiful and elegant creation worn by The Duchess of Cambridge on her big day in April 2011. Designed by McQueen's protégé Sarah Burton, the long lace sleeves, v-neck décolleté and traditional silhouette was more than fitting for a worldwide audience of 2 billion.
