Riverdale actress Lili Reinhart has proved that she has many strings to her bow as she's written a collection of poetry.

Swimming Lessons is a personal book of poems the star has penned and she revealed to host Seth Meyers while making a virtual appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers that the book is really important to her because she wants it to encourage readers to "be vulnerable".

"I really just find that I am the kind of person that needs to talk about my own problems and emotions," she said. "I just kind of have to talk about it out loud and share it with the world, whether they want to hear it or not. Which can sometimes get me in trouble!

"I was taking kind of a risk and a leap of faith by putting something that was personal out there in order to encourage other people to be vulnerable and to, you know, tackle their problems, their emotions, whatever they're going through."

Explaining that she has found her creative outlet through both acting and poetry, she added that she hopes the book will make readers feel part of a "community".

What to Read Next

"If this book can encourage people to feel welcomed or supported by this community, that's what I'm trying to do if that makes sense," she said. "Just kind of be an example to others that it's okay to be vulnerable and put yourself out there."

The actress, who also stars in movie Chemical Hearts, added that she felt far more comfortable expressing herself through the medium of poetry than she would have done writing an autobiography, as many people in the public eye do.

"I just turned 24, am I supposed to write a memoir?" she said. "It didn't feel organic, I'm not a huge fan of those kinds of books. It's kind of a little... I don't know, they're just weird to me. I'm not really that interesting, I don't need to write a whole book about myself.

"So, I'd rather just write a book of poetry in which people can read it and sort of put themselves in my shoes and see themselves as the narrator, almost."

She also revealed that she writes most of her poems on her phone as and when she feels inspired, joking that she wishes she could say she sits and writes them with a quill.

The poems in Swimming Lessons cover topics including the euphoria of young love and anxiety in the face of fame and "capture what it feels like to be a young woman in today's image-obsessed world with Lili's trademark honesty, optimism, and unique perspective".

Riverdale airs on The CW in the US. In the UK, you can stream via Netflix.
