As the trailer shows, Gooding's character meets Holt's character, and the pair become involved romantically. As the couple hang out in a bedroom, similar to Sidney Prescott's bedroom from Scream, the Heart Eyes Killer bursts out of the closet and chaos ensues.

The killer can be seen sporting a creepy mask with pink heart shapes cut out for the eyes. Once the lights go out, the eyes light up giving the mask an extra sinister feel.

Per the trailer, Sawa and Brewster appear to play a pair of detectives who are tasked with catching the killer. "He's like Cupid with a kink," Brewster says in the trailer.

The killer stalks Gooding and Holt through some classic horror locations such as an abandoned fairground and a drive-in cinema before what appears to be a final showdown.

The trailer ends with the particularly gruesome sword death of a couple in a camper van.

Heart Eyes releases in US cinemas on February 7. A UK release date is yet to be confirmed.
