BFI London Film Festival 2024 has confirmed its closing night movie is unexpectedly a film that embraces the world of LEGO animation.

The festival, which runs from October 9 to 20, has announced its Closing Night Gala will mark the European premiere of Piece By Piece.

The special event will be hosted at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall with screenings around the UK.

Piece By Piece is set to take viewers on a journey through the life of American pop sensation Pharrell Williams and is told through the lens of LEGO animation.

Piece By Piece explores Williams’ humble beginnings in Virginia Beach and his early career as a producer, before taking a deeper look at how he became such a prolific and successful modern musician.

What to Read Next

From Academy Award-winning documentary director Morgan Neville, the new film features Williams himself alongside a star-studded cast.

Music icons including Gwen Stefani, Kendrick Lamar, Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, Busta Rhymes, Jay-Z, and Snoop Dogg also feature in the film.

Celebrating the news, Neville shared his delight to have the European premiere of Piece By Piece at the festival.

"The BFI London Film Festival has been supportive of my career for a long time, with my first time screening there being over twenty years ago," he said. "Bringing Piece By Piece to the LFF means the world to me, and getting to be the closing night gala is the cherry on top of this huge honour.

“I’m thrilled to celebrate this film with the London audience.”

Piece By Piece will close this year's BFI London Film Festival before being released in cinemas on November 8.
