A new and alternative Beauty and the Beast story is doing the rounds – but don't worry, it isn't another reboot. And it's not a sequel either.

Following on from the huge success of Disney's live-action remake, a new story involving the Beast has dropped to satisfy our fairytale cravings – only this time, the story's subverted.

What to Read Next

Instead of Belle, we are introduced to a young girl named Yeva, whose quest is to hunt the Beast back into his own territory, a "world that can bring her ruin, or salvation". Sounds ominous.

The YA book, written by New York Times best-selling author Megan Spooner, is called Hunted and has been billed as "a story for the modern age".

Featuring spellbinding romance and intrigue, we reckon it's just the thing Beauty and the Beast fans will enjoy – especially as a sequel is off the table.

Despite no plans for a second outing to go ahead, Emma Watson already has an idea of where a follow-up could take her Disney princess – who's categorically not a princess, by the way.

"I always thought that Belle would become a teacher and she would run the library in the castle and open it up to the village," she revealed. "This was where I was going."

We'd be more than down for that.
