Beauty and the Beast star Josh Gad has hinted that LeFou's sexuality may be addressed in the upcoming Disney+ spin-off series.
The show is set to focus on Gad's character, alongside stepsister Tilly (Briana Middleton) and Gaston (Luke Evans), as they embark on an unexpected journey together.
Ahead of the Disney remake's release back in 2017, LeFou's sexuality was confirmed, with an "exclusively gay moment" heavily teased.

However, the eventual result – namely a dance with another man – was considered a major disappointment and missed opportunity by Disney for LGBTQ+ representation.
Of course, with a Disney+ series on the horizon, there is no doubt an opportunity to improve on that front, and Gad was asked about the possibility of showing LeFou as gay in the show.

"You're going to have to tune in when this show airs to see what we're working up, but in the process of working on it, we're asking ourselves every relevant question about these characters and endeavoring to do right by them and by this world," he told the Just for Variety podcast.

"I think that we have origin stories here that are unbelievably exciting because they're unexpected. And I think 'expect the unexpected' is all I can really say. And not just with regard to LeFou and Gaston but to a lot of the new characters that we're introducing."
The new musical series will consist of eight episodes, with production set to begin in spring 2022.
