Beauty and the Beast has very much become a beast of a movie, raking in a whopping $1 billion worldwide since it was released a few weeks ago.
Its worldwide gross in ticket sales now makes it the biggest live-action movie musical ever made. Yep, you read that right.
It seems a tale as old as time never really loses its magic, and so the movie has also cemented its position as the biggest flick of 2017 so far.

Beauty and the Beast has already broken a number of records, scoring the biggest opening for a PG-rated movie in the US with $170 million. So far, it has made $435.9 million in the US and Canada.
On the musical front, it has also bested Grease's US total of $188.8 million, though still stands behind Disney's Frozen and its worldwide total of $1.3 billion.

While the movie is waltzing off with the money, it looks like it will not get a sequel as Disney are wary after the negative reception of Alice Through the Looking Glass.
However, the company is apparently open to exploring "possible spinoff and prequel scenarios".
Beauty and the Beast, which stars Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Emma Thompson, Ewan McGregor, Kevin Kline, Audra McDonald, Luke Evans, Josh Gad, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Stanley Tucci and Ian McKellen, is in cinemas now.
