DC Entertainment is rewarding our endless wait for the Green Lantern Corps movie by turning it into a superhero team-up.

While it's very early days on the project, Deadline reports that the current plan is for two iconic bearers of the Green Lantern ring - Hal Jordan and John Stewart - to both appear in the eventual big-screen reboot.

Warner Bros and DC have hired Man of Steel writer David S. Goyer and Grassroots' Justin Rhodes to create a movie the studio is describing as "Lethal Weapon in space".

It will apparently centre on the introduction of African-American war hero John Stewart to the intergalactic space police force known as the Green Lanterns, and focus on his partnership with veteran Lantern Hal Jordan.

Hal Jordan is the same superhero played by Ryan Reynolds in the original Green Lantern movie, although there's no indication that Ryan will be back since he's busy with Deadpool 2.

The hiring of David S. Goyer as co-writer will likely prove controversial, since his work on Man of Steel divided Superman fans.

However, he also worked on the beloved Dark Knight trilogy, produced the recently-revived Constantine and is currently developing Syfy's Superman prequel series Krypton.

The Green Lantern Corps movie is currently scheduled to hit cinemas in 2020, but that won't necessarily be the first time we see the ring-bearers.

Although Warner Bros production president Greg Silverman hinted that the Green Lanterns would likely be introduced in 2019's Justice League 2, there have been rumours that the Corp will make at least a small appearance in Zack Snyder's first Justice League movie (out later this year).
