Christopher Nolan's 2017 World War II drama film Dunkirk has officially started filming.

Photographer Pierre Volot has shared a series of images taken on location in Dunkirk, France.

Dunkirk follows the evacuation of British, Belgian and French troops from Dunkirk's beaches in 1940 after they became surrounded by the German army - something Winston Churchill called "a colossal military disaster".

Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Mark Rylance and Kenneth Branagh are all set to star in the film while Harry Styles is set to make his acting debut.

Rylance recently joked about his co-star Styles at the BAFTA TV Awards, saying: "Am I a fan of Harry Styles? My niece showed me a video of him the other day. He has nice hair."

Nice hair which the former One Direction star has since chopped off for the role, donating it to a charity which makes wigs for children who have lost their own hair due to medical treatment or alopecia.

Dunkirk will also mark Murphy's fifth collaboration with Nolan.
