Milla Jovovich is  getting an extreme makeover for Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, playing an aged-up version of her gun-toting heroine Alice.

Sharing a selfie of her new look on Instagram, Jovovich revealed that her transformation required more than four hours in the make-up chair.

"I will post more pics of the process later!" she wrote. "Plus a sexy selfie (not for the weak of heart!) btw, for all those who think this look is for the end of the movie, it's not!"

Paul WS Anderson will return to the director's chair for The Final Chapter, which picks up straight after the events of 2012's Resident Evil: Retribution.

This time around Alice returns to Raccoon City, where the Umbrella Corporation is preparing one last strike against the only remaining survivors of the apocalypse.

Ali Larter will reprise her role as Claire Redfield, while Ruby Rose, Iain Glen, William Levy and Shawn Roberts are also among the cast.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter will debut in cinemas in January 2017.
