Vin Diesel has confirmed that the 11th and final film in the Fast & Furious franchise, which has been going since 2001, has officially started production.

The Dom Toretto actor took to his Instagram to announce that things are going full steam ahead on Fast Forever, after a lengthy wait following the disappointing performance of Fast X from 2023.

In the video, he walked around a garage full of busy crew members, addressing the camera in a quiet voice.

"I'm on set. People are grinding. Incredible crews are working," he said. "I just wanted to take a second to say thank you. You guys are the best audience in the world, best fans in the world.

"You've been patient to the industry, you've been patient to the studio, and you've been patient with me.

Diesel added: "Over the past three and a half years, we've been grinding to try to make the most amazing finale."

He also touched on how "lucky" he was to play his other character Riddick again in the time between the last Fast film and now, as well as being involved in the Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots movie from Mattel.

Going back to the new F&F film, Diesel concluded: "One thing I know, I can feel your support and that means the world to me. I hope to make you all proud."

Fast X was set to be the first of a two-parter with the 11th movie, similar to Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. However, the film underperformed at the box office and was subjected to a lengthy retooling.

Not much is known about the plot of the film at the time of writing, but it's been reported that Dwayne Johnson and Gal Gadot will both be reprising their roles from earlier instalments.

Diesel also confirmed that Brian O'Conner - who was portrayed by the late Paul Walker - will appear in some capacity.

Fast Forever is scheduled to be released in cinemas on 17 March 2028.
