Acclaimed British romantic dramedy Pillion, starring Harry Melling and Alexander Skarsgård, is now available to watch at home.
Written and directed by Harry Lighton in his directorial debut, the film follows shy traffic warden Colin (Melling) as he embarks on a BDSM relationship with enigmatic biker Ray (Skarsgård).
Premiered at Cannes last year, Pillion earned positive reviews and currently sits at a perfect score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. Following a cinema run in November 2025, the movie is now available to rent and buy on digital platforms, including Prime Video and AppleTV.
Labelled a 'dom-com', Lighton's film offers a frank, non-judgemental look at dom-sub dynamics whilst challenging the idea of masculinity within queer relationships, working as a coming-of-age ride for wallflower protagonist Colin.
Melling and Skarsgård showcase an electrifying chemistry during Pillion's most explicit moments and tender scenes alike, delivering two committed performances elevating the already compelling material.
The film has been branded a "future classic" (via Filmhounds), with Rolling Stone UK praising the sweet bond between Colin and his supportive, though at times clueless, parents.
What to Read Next
"It's a heart-warming depiction of parenthood that strikes a similar tone to films such as Pride, where the older mining community embraced LGBTQ+ activists. And Colin's journey is a joy to watch," their review reads.
An adaptation of 2020 novel Box Hill by Adam Mars-Jones, Pillion may feature some scorching, hyper-erotic encounters that leave little to the imagination, but it's ultimately a "feel-good English comedy", argues Sight & Sound.
To give an accurate depiction of biking culture, Lighton consulted with the members of the Gay Bikers Motorcycle Club (GBMCC), who also appeared in the film.
The filmmaker and protagonist Melling spent time with the bikers to learn the secrets of a bootlick and pillion rides. Meanwhile, Skarsgård, who also serves as an executive producer on the film, admittedly didn't create any backstory for Ray, partly to keep up with his mysterious, taciturn dom persona.
"It was great!" the Big Little Lies actor said in an interview with The Guardian. "The material lent itself to just showing up and doing it."
Pillion is available to buy and rent from digital retailers, including Prime Video and Apple TV.
