Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning star Hayley Atwell has revealed why people were "gagging" at a movie night at Tom Cruise’s house.

According to Atwell, Cruise invited the film's cast over to watch movies during production of the two-part action movie as part of a team building experience.

During the first cast get together, Atwell said that Cruise extended the invitation to her two French bulldogs, Iris and Wolfie, who "loved" Cruise a little too much.

Appearing on Thursday's episode of The Tonight Show, Atwell told host Jimmy Fallon about the first movie night, saying: "The first time he said, 'Oh, I hear you have dogs. You should bring them over'.

"And I thought, 'Well that's quite a good test of character,' because if a dog likes you, then you're a pretty solid guy, I think, right? They don't lie."

After bringing her beloved pets to Cruise's house, Atwell said they approved of Cruise.

"I brought them over and they loved him," she said, adding: "And they insisted on sitting on him for the duration of the movie."

Informing the audience that French bulldogs are "very potent farters", Atwell said that Iris and Wolfie lived up to their reputation and spent the whole time farting.

"We're watching [the movie], and they were sitting on [Cruise], and they were farting on him the whole way through the movie," she said. "And I'm sat there and I'm like, 'Oh my God.' And I'm looking around and there's some other people who are gagging."

During the same interview, Atwell revealed that she was pregnant while filming some of Final Reckoning's action sequences.

Atwell, who stars as Grace in the franchise, reprising her role from Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One, said she was "actually eight and a half months pregnant" during a fight scene, but was "taken such good care of".

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is in cinemas now.
