Caine, the upcoming spin-off in the John Wick franchise, will be bringing back a fan-favourite character.
The film, which was announced in May 2024, sees Donnie Yen reprise his role as the blind assassin from John Wick: Chapter 4, with the actor also serving as an executive producer and director for the project.
Variety reports that Yen will be joined by Rina Sawayama, with the actor and musician reprising her role as Shimazu Akira from the same film.
The news isn't necessarily a huge surprise, with a post-credits scene from John Wick: Chapter 4 showing Akira confronting Caine in Paris.
"Most delighted to welcome Rina back into this new exciting journey with us," said Yen. "It will be my pleasure and attempt to elevate her amazing character that left us mesmerised from John Wick: Chapter 4!"
"Rina is such a badass," added John Wick director Chad Stahelski, who serves as a producer on Caine. "I love what she did with this role in Chapter 4 and can’t wait to see her cross paths with Caine once again."

Adam Fogelson, chair of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, also shared a statement, saying: "John Wick: Chapter 4 introduced us to so many compelling, original characters, including Akira. We're beyond thrilled to have Rina coming back to the franchise.
"Caine and Akira have unfinished business, and this next chapter in their stories will be explosive," he continued, with Basil Iwanyk adding that Sawayama would be a "tremendous addition" to the film.
While details about the project are scarce, Caine is said to follow the titular character after he is "freed from his obligations to the High Table", with the film said to be inspired by the Hong Kong-style action thrillers that made Yen famous.
