John Wick fans will be delighted that a new prequel movie centred on a major plot element has been announced.
It has been confirmed that a new animated feature is in the works, which will see Keanu Reeves return to voice his character.
Excitingly, the project will focus on the Impossible Task, which takes place before the first John Wick and sees the hitman take out his foes in one night in order to fulfill his obligation to the High Table.
The project was announced at CinemaCon, and will be directed by Shannon Tindle, written by Vanessa Taylor and co-produced by longtime John Wick director Chad Stahelski.
"I’ve always been fascinated with anime," Stahelski said (via The Hollywood Reporter). "It has always been a huge influence on me, especially with the John Wick series.

Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson added: "In both animation and the world of John Wick, the possibilities are endless.
"And there is no John Wick story fans are clamoring for more than the Impossible Task. Shannon’s take on that story is an incredible one, and we are beyond excited to see what John Wick can do in animation."

Alongside the announcement, the long-awaited John Wick: Chapter 5 was officially confirmed, with Reeves and Stahelski both back as star and director, respectively.
It was also revealed that the previously-announced Caine-centred spin-off will be directed by star Donnie Yen, who is also returning to the role.
The next John Wick universe project set for release is Ballerina, which will star Ana de Armas as assassin Eve Macarro and is due in cinemas this June.
The John Wick movies are available to buy or rent on Prime Video, plus DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD.
