Scott Eastwood has revealed why he passed on the lead role in Fifty Shades of Grey.

Eastwood was reportedly considered for the role of Christian Grey after Charlie Hunnam exited the project, but he didn't audition because Universal Pictures wouldn't let him see the script first, reports Variety.

"They wanted me to sign a deal before I went in and even tested for it, which to me is backwards," Eastwood explained.

"I thought it could make a good movie. The problem is, if you don't have a script, you don't know what movie they are going to make."

The Christian Grey role eventually went to Jamie Dornan, who acted opposite Dakota Johnson in the recently released movie.

Fifty Shades of Grey went on to debut in the number one spot at the US box office back in February, but Will Smith's heist film Focus ended the movie's two-week run at the top.
