Netflix's upcoming adaptation of Jane Austen's Persuasion has added another big name to its impressive cast.

Following the news that Fifty Shades of Grey's Dakota Johnson will star as Anne Elliot, the streamer has confirmed that Crazy Rich Asians' Henry Golding is on board as Mr Elliot.

Persuasion is being directed by theatre's Carrie Cracknell (Macbeth) and written by Ron Bass (Rain Man) and Alice Victoria Winslow, with the movie taking "a modern, witty approach" to the classic story "while still remaining true to the novel".

The official synopsis reads: "Living with her snobby family on the brink of bankruptcy, Anne Elliot is an unconforming woman with modern sensibilities.

"When Frederick Wentworth – the dashing one she once sent away – crashes back into her life, Anne must choose between putting the past behind her or listening to her heart when it comes to second chances."

Alongside Persuasion, Golding has a busy schedule coming up, with the actor due to star in GI Joe spin-off Snake Eyes and The Tiger's Apprentice.
